The farm and who we are

Behind Amor Platánico there are two young entrepreneurs from the Canary Islands. Dani, a farmer since the age of 16, and Sara, the driving force behind the project. Together they have opened a working banana farm on La Palma to the public, to share the essence of the Canary banana.

Dani has been a farmer since he was 16, and brings the knowledge and authenticity of a working banana farm. He knows what every bunch costs because he does it every day.

Sara is the driving force behind the project and is responsible for its development, its partnerships and the creation of an agrotourism experience with its own identity.

They are both from here. Amor Platánico is not an idea brought in from outside: it is the family farm, opened up.

A working farm, not a museum

We are a working banana farm that opens its gates to share the essence of the Canary banana. The visit rests on exactly that: showing how bananas are really grown here, with the work behind it, and letting visitors taste them before they leave.

Because everything depends on the farm and not on the weather, the experience works the same all year round, low season included.

The Canary banana

The banana plant is not a tree but a giant herbaceous plant: it grows, produces a single bunch and dies, while the shoot that replaces it is already growing beside it. In the Canary Islands that cycle takes around nine months.

The Canary banana stays on the plant to the very end, filling out under the island sun, and is cut while still green so that it reaches the market in good condition: ripening is finished afterwards, in a ripening room. That care is where its little freckles, its shorter size and its sweeter, more intense flavour come from. We explain the whole process on the tour.

Our dream is to turn Amor Platánico into a benchmark for agrotourism in the Canary Islands, creating opportunities for people, value for the municipality and memorable experiences for those who visit us.
